Rising Drug Prices

We know rising drug prices are top of mind for consumers, which is why we are employing multiple strategies to ensure patients get the right drug at the lowest cost.

The price of prescription drugs remains too high and out of reach for far too many in the United States. Lowering drug prices is a prerequisite to controlling health care costs, which in turn determines affordability, access to care and better outcomes. Through CVS Caremark, the pharmacy benefit management business of CVS Health we are helping members reduce prescription drug costs and improve their health. Unfortunately. PBMs are needlessly under attack in Washington, DC and dozens of legislatures throughout the country. Legislators need more information about what PBMs do and how they are part of the solution, not the problem.

Caremark partners with health plans to negotiate lower drug prices for millions of Americans. They do this by negotiating with drug companies for lower priced drugs on behalf of clients, contracting with a broad network of pharmacy providers and suppliers to offer the broadest array of pharmacy services possible, reviewing drug utilization as well as managing and improving patient adherence, among other things. Through innovative programs, Caremark helps bring down the price of prescription drugs for members.

Throughout the year, we may need your help to educate legislators about the benefits of CVS Caremark and to ensure we stop legislation from being considered in states that would limit our ability to do business as a PBM and increase drug costs.
